MX PLUGS Maker James C. Counts Jr. is the son of the famous Sculptor James C. Counts, Art is in the family. While growing up on South Shore of Long Island, I fished all over in freswater lakes, streams, ponds, rivers throught  the states. I found a plug at a lake on time re-shaped it, re-rigged it and that'a how it all started. I'd modify store bought plugs then I started to carve them from wood.  I made poppers, stick baits, swimmers as well as flies and spinners. I started to catch bluegills, bass, pickerel, trout and then pike  on my handcrafted plugs. I started fishing them along the beach and in the back bays in the 80's, primarily catching blues and weakfish until that day I got my first striped bass and it was on my handcrafted wooden plug.

I make a variety of plugs both designed for fresh and saltwater fishing. For Freshwater I have Poppers, Plastic and Metal Lip Swimmers and Jerkbaits. The Saltwater plugs are BZ plugs, Eelskins, Jerkbaits, Metal Lip Swimmers, Needle Fish, Pencil Poppers, Poppers and the Topwater Dog. All plugs are handcrafted from premimum materials and assembled one at a time in the USA. Each plug is tested for it's individual performance and each plug varies slightly in their shapes and weights.

 MX PLUGS also creates a line of One-Of-A-Kind Fishing Collectables. These items are Corkscrew Bottle Stopper, Corn Cob Holders, Key Chains, Light Chain Pulls, Salt-N-Pepper Shakers and Wall Displays. These items are great for gifts or around the home and office and each also mimics the MX PLUG fishing lures.
